Despite experiencing financial strain and a shortage of volunteers in its earlier years, by God's faithfulness, the work continued and volunteers sacrificially bore the expenses of the ministry and pressed forward with one unified goal, to see lives transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Services and Bible studies were held on Sunday afternoons at East Street School. Evan and I are so looking forward to sharing these special moments with you in the year ahead.In 1879, Highland Baptist Church began as the East Street Mission, which started as a ministry to reach the neighborhoods of south Fitchburg. Know how grateful I am for each of you, for your understanding of this unique situation, and for your love and support. My hope is that Evan and I will actually get to spend more time with you over the course of this evening than we might on our actual wedding day, which feels important to us, too.
I’ll wear my wedding dress (because who turns down another opportunity to wear her wedding dress?), we’ll cut another cake, and we’ll enjoy an evening celebrating together with you over desserts and punch. We would also like to invite you and your families to join us for a special church-wide wedding reception the following week on Thursday evening, June 8 at The Pointe in Butchertown.

Because sharing life with you, not apart from you, is the only way I know how to be your pastor! Therefore, we are going to livestream the wedding ceremony on June 3, 2023, which will also provide a way for me to share this day with my former church family back in Texas. That being said, it is very important to me that we create ways for Highland to participate in this meaningful moment and to celebrate this new chapter with us. Some of our past and present Highland staff will be at the wedding, along with a small group of Highland folks who are helping with various parts of the ceremony, and I’m grateful for the part they will play in representing the presence of our larger church family. However, getting married at Highland also means that we are simply unable to invite our church family to attend the wedding face-to-face. It’s rare that a pastor has the opportunity to be married in the same space where she ministers, and it feels sacred for us to begin our marriage within this same space where we meet with God each week. We explored so many different possibilities and locations for our wedding, but at the end of the day, getting married within our stone walls at Highland feels important to us. Evan and I quickly realized how limited our space would be at Highland, especially when we considered the number of family members and friends who would be joining us.
Evan has enjoyed meeting many of you, too, and is already looking forward to different ways he can engage in the life of Highland.Īs you can imagine, planning a wedding as a pastor of a congregation the size of Highland with a sanctuary the size of ours has proven to be a bit of a challenge. We are both excited (and so ready) for him to move to Louisville this summer and to begin this next chapter of our life together. We are thrilled to share that Evan has received a job with Baptist Health here in Louisville and will begin working with them in August. I will never forget the moment when I surprised you with this good news at the end of worship and the excitement that erupted within the sanctuary! Thank you, church family, for celebrating this special season of life with me.įor those of you who haven't met Evan yet, he is in his fifth and final year of residency at the University of Kentucky training as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I’m so grateful for the ways you have celebrated with me since my engagement last spring. One of the biggest joys of ministry for me is sharing life with a congregation of such fabulous people.
